My First Movie Production - "A Funky Trip to Chapel Hill!!"

Hey Everyone,

Today is the first day for Back in the Groove Productions -- Movies!! AND guess what - I submitted it to Current TV! (http://www.currenttv.com/) Yes, I said Movies! It's taken a bit longer than I anticipated, but now I have the type of equipment to produce and direct the type of movies that I enjoy developing.

Yes, I know what you're thinkin' -- WHAT ABOUT YOUR MUSIC CD'S AND T PHILLIP GEE!! Of course, I'm not giving my funky music CD productions and I want to thank everyone, particularly my family (cousins) for enjoying our type of music -- Classic Funk & NeoFunk! Indeed, all the Funketeers know what I'm talkin' about!!

Yet now, I want to try something new and Movie Productions is something that I love to do! You are probably aware that I love to take pictures. Well from the still shots and in the early days (70s), my family had a Super8mm camera. Man, that camera took some outstanding vacation shots. My mother and father took my brother and I to places like the Indianapolis 500, The Superbowl in Los Angeles and Las Vegas! We still have those Super8mm movies and they are classics!

Now I want to keep the tradition going with my MOVIE PRODUCTIONS!! That's why I felt the need to document my family vacations -- NOW -- with a new style of movie productions and telling of a story -- my style -- FUNKY with a flare of freshness, fun and diversity! That's what I consider -- Back in the Groove Productions -- Movies -- tellin' a different story of America with a cooooooool soundtrack to keep you entertained in a FUNKY-WAY!

The name of my first Movie -- "A Funky Trip to Chapel Hill!"

I hope you enjoy. Please let me know what you think! I love to hear from you!

This is the Beetle -- signing OUT!! -- KEEP IT FUNKY!

Check out a picture of my family and of course - me -- "Beetle" - The Director & Producer!

James Brown - The GodFather and Originator of Funk Passes Away

James Brown - The GodFather of Soul and Originator of Funk Passes Away

The man, myth and legend of TRUE Funk, Soul & R&B passed away on December 25th in the very early hours. It is truly a sad day for all of us who loved his voice, style, music, showmanship, dance, attitude, heritage and down-right black man personna to hear about the passing of James Brown! Born in Barnwell, S.C. in 1933, the HARDEST WORKIN' MAN IN SHOW BUSINESS - James Brown had a tough upbringing but despite such tough times, he propelled his life situation into the music industry by being tenacious in sharing his world through his music.

In 1940, Mr. Brown moved with his father to Augusta, Georgia where he grew up and learned how to play keyboards and guitar at his aunt's brothel. Several years later, Mr. Brown teamed with singer Bobby Byrd's Ever Ready Gospel Singers, which soon evolved into the R&B group the Flames (later the Famous Flames) in 1953. They were signed to King Records in 1956 and scored an immediate R&B hit with the pleading Please, Please, Please.

Further R&B hits and constant tours on the R&B (specifically African American) concert circuit followed, and gradually he made inroads into the pop market with such hits as 1962's Night Train and pop ballad Prisoner of Love in 1963.

They year also saw the release of Live at the Apollo, one of the first massively successful live albums in any musical genre and a landmark recording that captured the inimitable intensity and legendary stop-on-a-dime musical precision of a James Brown show!

After the live show and other successful early hits, Mr. James Brown took his music style to a new level that NO ONE COULD TOUCH!!

His hits include the following:
  • Please, Please, Please (1956)
  • Night Train (1961)
  • Out of Sight (1964)
  • Papa's Got a Brand New Bag/I Got You (I Feel Good) (1965)
  • It's a Man's Man's Man's World (1966)
  • Cold Sweat (1967)
  • Say It Loud -- I'm Black and I'm Proud (1968)
  • I Don't Want Nobody to Give Me Nothing (1969)
  • Get Up (I Feel Like Being Like a Sex Machine (1970)
  • Super Bad (1970)
  • The Payback (1973)
  • Bodyheat (1976)
  • Living in America (1985)
  • I'm Real (1988) - teams with Full Force
  • They Don't Want Music (2005) - teams with The Black Eyed Peas

Personally, I saw Mr. James Brown when I was 9 or 10 at one of his classic concerts in Cincinnati with my cousins and aunts! It was my first concert and the BEST CONCERT THAT I EVER ATTENDED!! I remember all of us had fun and I remember how James Brown performed on stage doing the camel walk, the dance "popcorn" and throwing off the cap!! Talk about production and showmanship, Mr. James Brown did it all!! After that concert, I was a dedicated fan and admirer of Mr. James Brown. One song that I specifically remember and proud to have sang along with all the concert goers was -- SAY IT LOUD, I'M BLACK AND I'M PROUD!! That became a national anthem for all of us in the community!! If you know what I mean!!

That's why I have continued to do all of my BACK IN THE GROOVE PRODUCTIONS with Mr. James Brown apart of them in some form or fashion. He is the creator of FUNK and that's what I will continue to bring with my productions!!

THANKS MR. JAMES BROWN FOR GIVING US REAL FUNK, SOUL & R&B!!

Back in the Groove Productions: Introducing DJ T Phillip Gee

If you like classic R & B Funk, you are at the right place.

What's Up? My name is T Phillip Gee -- a home-grown DJ who used to throw down the jams at house parties and college dorms in the midwest during 70s. It was something that I used to do in my spare time after my academic studies and organized sport activity (football). I grew up loving all types of music of the 60s and 70s particularly R & B Funk and Soul music. The classic rhythms, vocals, beat, dance grooves and crisp sounds of the instruments engulfed my spirit and soul.

I was also fortunate to have an older brother who was the leader of his own R & B band at the time in which I traveled with him on occasions to local gigs! It was an unforgetable experience which most likely motivated me to become even more connected to music and music industry. Although I was not a musician, I definitely learned to appreciate what it takes to make it in the music industry!

That's probably why I started making my own audio cassette tapes of my favorite groups. Groups such as Earth, Wind & Fire, The Ohio Players, Isley Brothers, Commodores, Parliment Funkadelics, Bootsy Collins, Heatwave, Lakeside, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Zapp featuring Roger Troutman and of course Average White Band -- all became apart of my classic audio cassette and eight-track tape collections.

Yet my love for R & B Funk and Soul music actually began at my first concert. I do not know exactly my age (maybe 9 or 10 years old) but I attended a James Brown concert in Cincinnati, Ohio with my relatives. Along with my cousins, we saw James Brown at the top of his fame doing the camel walk, throwing off his cap, and singing all of his FUNKY songs with his classic band!! It was an unbelievable experience -- one in which made me not only want to dance like James Brown (doing the Popcorn) but feel the FUNKY grooves like it should be felt!! From that point on, I was a funkateer!

That's how it all started with me and how I became emmersed into Classic R & B Funk and Soul music!! So here is a blog and eventually Podcast Shows that gives appreciation to Classic R & B Funk and Soul.
